How this estimate works

Net earnings equal gross income plus other relevant self-employment income minus business expenses. The configured SE-taxable percentage is applied, followed by separately displayed Social Security and Medicare components. The optional federal estimate applies only your entered rate to net income and is not combined into self-employment tax.

Assumptions

  • Uses centrally documented federal planning constants labeled Requires annual verification.
  • Additional Medicare threshold varies by filing status and is applied only to the entered self-employment earnings in this simplified model.
  • The deductible portion is estimated as one-half of the regular Social Security and Medicare components.

Limitations

This simplified model does not coordinate the Social Security wage base with W-2 wages, calculate income-tax brackets, qualified business income, special church or farm rules, or every adjustment.
